The Eternal Summer

Remember how I said I was wrong about the eternal summer happening here in Italy? Turns out that I wasn't wrong. Aside from two afternoons of rain, of which only one could be considered heavy rainfall, it has consistently been around 80 degrees or higher. Fahrenheit of course, if it was 80 Celsius? Nice knowing you all!

It's been a nice change from the gray, rainy and cold weather of Washington in the fall. But it's also an issue because I definitely packed clothes for more fall weather than summer. Doesn't make you feel any better seeing people walk around in pants and jackets when you're overheating in shorts and a tank top. I don't know how those Italians do it.

But what's a better way to cool down than by going to the beach? Saturday me and a couple friends took the train just an hour and a half away to Viareggio.

We were greeted by this lovely sight:

Of course after getting lunch, some gelato was necessary.

Cantalope and Pineapple gelato. Yum.

We were just laying on the beach sunbathing when all of a sudden we heard an engine and looked up and there were these people in this thing.

I think it was a motorized parachute. I don't know what you would really call it. It looked fun but was obnoxiously loud. Three different times this thing came around.

Come sail away...

Yup took the camera in the water with me. Luckily there was no incident.
There was an insanely beautiful view of mountains from the water.

And there were palm trees! Defintely didn't expect to see many of those while in Italy!

Wait, I'm still in Italy right?
It kind of looked like California...

We had delicious bruschetta, so fresh and with fantastic olive oil.
What's a trip to the beach without seeing some of the sunset?

Viareggio was a fantastic day trip just a simple ride on the train, a bit of a walk and you're at the beach. Definitely felt like you were transported to a resort.

On an odder note, I'd never really had anyone try to sell me material goods while laying on the beach but there were numerous people trying to sell us sunglasses, "designer" bags, jewelry and even a lady walking around offering foot massages! That definitely wouldn't happen in the US.

Well, the weather's still quite warm here and it may be October but it definitely feels like a never ending summer. Walking around the city Sunday it felt even hotter than when we were on the beach.
Who knows when it'll actually start to cool down.

I might actually be excited for the cooler weather of Sweden this coming weekend.
